Altars

The sacred iconography of the altar is an interesting construct. In Christianity, when taking first communion, we present to our children a visual and performative spectacle. In religion this is a way to imprint awe and wonder. The Altars Series investigates how this construct can apply to cosmological beliefs. Taking inspiration from scientific pantheism’s marvel of the interconnectedness of the material world, these images embody the “altars” of Nature.  Imbuing the work with a sense of the sacred happens intuitively with the lofty goal of creating a visual spectacle. Using photographs and drawings from my surroundings, I construct these narratives using playful compositing and transformation.
