New World View

In 1991, with the Cold War still in effect, the Soviet Union collapsed. This dramatic change in events adjusted the world order to where the United States became the dominant power.  Whereas my entire life was influenced by the undercurrent of Cold War anxiety, suddenly I was free of these tensions. With this welcome feeling I was also conflicted by the knowledge and worry of this new order of political power.  American politicians seemed more interested in gloating than reflecting on this immense responsibility. The imagery of the New World View Series, mined from the newly created internet, is a synergistic display of post-cold war life. What seems like a cliche today, the mashup of internet images to create a collage was innovative at the time. Likewise with few options for quality printed output I chose gum bichromate printing, an antique process that gives a painterly effect.
